The HyVent fabric utilizes a polyurethane coating that gives it a superior waterproofing and breathability. It is a multi-layer formula consisting of three layers, one each for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. The North Face thoroughly tested this new fabric technology in their quality assurance lab to make sure that it provided the best possible combination of durability and functionality while also maintaining its breathability.

They also tested the fabrics waterproof level by washing garments made of HyVent® 20 times. The garments retained an average of more than 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens Test. Of course The North Face also field tests all their garments to make sure they stand up to the abuse of actual use.
